PCI’s 2011 Architectural Student Design Competition involves design of multi-unit total precast housing. This competition is intended to encourage universities to provide regional community service to their own campuses and communities by offering the widest range of capabilities that precast/prestressed concrete can offer.

Participants may elect to use this site-specific location or choose to develop their own existing site. Because the selection of a specific type of multi-unit housing is open, the design solution requires a detailed description of the site and programmatic requirements of the project as designed.

The competition will include consideration for sustainable building practices. The potential for precast/prestressed concrete as a green building material is significant, and innovative applications may contribute to greater performance in several areas of sustainable building. Successful entries will be characterized by innovative use of precast/prestressed concrete as an agent in sustainable design. A minimum potential silver LEED rating is required to be integrated into the design.
